What is CODECAL® ?
CODECAL® is specific quicklime developed to improve quality and homogeneity of sludge and waste in order to enable a safe, reliable and cost effective recycling.
CODECAL® is delayed reactivity quicklime which hydration reaction is delayed :
- of a few minutes in demineralised water,
- of tens of minutes in mineral and/or organic sludges.
Quick lime reacts in presence of water to form hydrated lime :
CaO + H
2O → Ca(OH)
2
This reaction is quick and very exothermic in the case of standard quicklime.
This short time delay makes lime addition difficult before the exothermic hydration reaction.
The perfect control of the reaction time, without penalising the reaction speed nor the hydration capacity, is key in the CODECAL® process.
How is it produced ?
CODECAL® is produced from natural quicklime by partial pre-hydration in specific conditions.
CODECAL® is :
- high calcium quicklime with up to 85% available lime for hydration
- lime with a specific delayed and controlled reactivity
- lime with an optimised particle size for its use
